Those of you who keep trashing our country and want us to stop helping other countries, (and by wanting us to leave Iraq, you are saying that you don't want us to help) you should read the Mini Page in the Washington Post this week. There is an important question that everyone should ask themselves in regard to the first amendment typed in the middle of the front page. "Have you thought about what it would be like if you were not allowed to do these things?" Iraqi people did not get to do these things under Sadam's regime. Not to many countries are blessed with these freedoms. And I think way to many of us are taking them for granted lately.

Well said these people think are freedom just fell from the sky. Do they not realize, its not just the material things that cost. They need to suck it up and just go to one of those countries and see how fast, they would want our country there and involved. I can assure you they would stop whining and trashing our government and country.GOD BLESS THE USA

Personally, I think if we stop helping other countries as much we already do, it would be a good thing. For example, we give away millions of dollars in foreign aid annually, yet we have problems with our own country that needs to be fixed: public schools, homelessness, etc. I mean, why not make sure our own people have 3 square meals a day then helping other countries?

So I say, if we get out of Iraq, then we get our money out of other foreign countries as well. And we should get our troops out of other countries, like Bosnia---we've been there since the mid-90s.

I think there is a slight difference between "helping" a country and "invading" a country.

And just because someone disagrees with the so called "war" in Iraq does not mean that they are trashing the GOD BLESSED US of A.

I don't. Helping a country by invading it with US monies is still invading a country. Foreign aid is bribery. The bribe is you do X, Y, Z and we'll give you 100 billion dollars over the next 10 years. And that's how the resentment is built: the people in these countries think Americans see them as cheap whores who can be bought with a few dollars.

OK, for the people that believe that we should have helped but shouldn't have invaded please explain to me how we were supposed to do that? Were we supposed to go up to Sadam and say "can we please ruin your dictatorship and help your people go against you and be free?"

Sadam deserved to die.He was murderer and tyrant. He caused constant unrest in the region.
It's hard to give FREEDOM to people who don't know what it is.Freedom is a political idea
the foundation of Democracy. These people in this entire region are governed by religion, and have been for centuries.I agree with Bush
on a few aspects we would have eventually been involved in the middle east.If not Israel some other country would have asked us to fight their war against some aggresser.I trully beleive this is going to end up a world struggle if Islam continues it's militants toward the west. The no.1 trouble maker is IRAN!
I think most Americans relize this.I don't want our troops there, but they are!Unless the Arabs come to the table and talk and negotiate
a peace settlement, this war will escalate into
a reginal then global conflict. There are 1.5 billion muslims in the world today,we have to open a dialouge with this religion or the bloodshed to come will be unprecedented in history.Israel WILL NOT LET IRAN HAVE THE BOMB!

In think the people against the war would feel a little different if it was them and their families that were getting pulled out of their houses in the middle of the night to get tortured and killed. You would want someone to help.

It's not funny, but what about New Orleans. It is day 15 with at least 1 murder a day. since the beginning of the year. And it still isn't even close to being what it was. Most of it is still a landfill. Why aren;t we pouring billions to rebuild like we are in Iraq-of course we destroyed Iraq, not Mother nature. And the levees are still not 100 %. Lets help our society first, before trying to "fix" somebody elses. Heck, the government didn't even "invade and help for the first 3 days. Maybe I'm waiting for Bush to fly in and say mission accomplished

Hey GREMLYN100:
You are so right one of the few here that says WE AS AMERICANS TAKE CARE OF US FIRST.We are in a world struggle That is true.I take care of my house first before I clean up someone elses.

gremlyn100, of course George Bush did it. That's been blogged ad nauseum here. But I thought now you have John Edwards who just flew in to defend and rebuild. At least I saw him announcing his entering the 08 race last week from NoLa, with his shirtsleevs all rolled and a bunch of kids around him. Oh, you mean he's not there now? Did he go back home to NC?

Caffeinated-cow, I agree with you 100%. What about our country? If these other countries could; do you think that they would help our country before their own? So much focus on Iraq that the less fortunate is forgotten even more.

There are so many Americans that are hungry and poor. It is wrong for them to be ignored whilst non-americans are helped with billions of dollars. saddam deserved what he got, but isn't it time for America to focus on "Home?"

Americans have the attitude now that the gov't is supposed to be in charge of them. The gov't is supposed to pay for everything for them. Look at the Katrina victims. A bunch of them still expect America (our tax dollars) to still support them. To pay for their housing. I am getting sick and tired of paying for people that don't want to help themselves. After more then a year, its time for you to get on your own 2 feet and quit expecting us to pay for you. People on welfare, same thing. I get that people go through hard times. So for a short amount of time, thats ok. But don't expect it for more then 6 months. Get on your feet and quit making us pay for you. If you go to the health dept in Manassas VA, all you see is Mexicans trying to get on WIC. We are paying for them but yet lets fight the war? What sense does that make?

As I said, help the people within our country first then help other countries. Does it make me sad to see those documentaries with starving children in third world countries? Yes it does. But it makes me even sadder to know that some US school children only have 1 meal a day--the meal provided by the school. That's unacceptable, imo. It's obscene to give away billions of dollars yearly to help other countries when OUR people can make better use of that money.

AND, AND what really gets me is the ingratitude other countries have towards us for giving them our monies. Keep an eye out on the news and you'll see that the majority of anti-American protests occur in countries that are partially funded by billions of US foreign aid monies.

Our foreign aid policy proves the old saying that "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

Thanks jadeddude. I appreciate it. I am noticing that people are getting a little carried away here. Especially lilbits threat to you about calling her out by name. That was a little ignorant if you ask me. Threats are pretty childish. But that is typical lilbits anymore

Wrightmommy:

First of all, I did not threaten anyone so please stop trying to hang another black person because your statements can be harmful at best, I do not need a criminal record, I have enough stress just because of the color of my skin. Secondly, I would not want to know where you or anyone else on this site lives as I am not a violent person despite you people thinking that all blacks are out to get you, and please keep my name out of you damn mouth as if I seemed childish to you what do you think you guys appear when writing the horrible things you all do?
